DIY Drones for Farmers: More Locations

If you've been thinking of using a drone on your farm, winter is a perfect time to choose a system and get trained to use it properly. We will be offering our Ag Drone School in five locations before Christmas and are planning at least five more before seeding in the spring.

The first fall location was in Rumsey, just north of Drumheller. It was very well attended, with a great group of students with interests ranging from locating cattle to checking flowering levels for their bees. One of our close collaborators, Robin Harrison from JTS Agrow (above), stopped in to give some insight into the business side of an agricultural imagery service.

Next week, the M.D. of Taber will be our host at the Taber Legion Hall November 20-21, 2017. The following week, we will be in north-central Saskatchewan with back-to-back locations at the Humboldt Uniplex Convention Centre (Nov 28-29) and the Alfred Jenkins Field House in Prince Albert (Nov 30-Dec 1). Our final location before the holidays will be the Westlock & District Community Hall (Dec 7-8).

Those attending our school learn about various types of crop imaging systems (RGB, NIR-converted, and multispectral) and go through examples of how you would use that data as a farmer or agronomist. Software demonstrations include Croptivity, MapsMadeEasy, FarmSolutions, DroneDeploy and Slantview.

The BlackHawk Aeronautical UAV ground school will give you the knowledge required by Transport Canada when applying for a Special Flight Operations Certificate. Our class is hands-on, so even if you have never flown a drone, this is the school for you.
